English With Jacob ("we", "us", "our") operates the English With Jacob mobile app (the "App") and the englishwithjacob.com website (the "Website"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect across the App and Website, how we use it, and your choices.

1. Information We Collect (App)

Account information.

When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and password (stored securely and encrypted; we never see your password in plain text).

Learning data.

We store your progress through lessons and vocabulary, including which words you've learned, quiz/review results, streaks, and words you submit for your own study lists. This is used to power your learning experience (e.g. spaced repetition, progress tracking) and is tied to your account.

Marketing preferences.

If you opt in during sign-up, we collect your email address to send you product updates and marketing communications via Resend. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email, choose which topics you hear about on our e-mail preferences page, or turn this off in your account settings.

Crash and error data.

We use Sentry, a third-party error-monitoring service, to automatically collect technical information when the App crashes or encounters an error — such as device type, operating system version, and a stack trace of the error. This helps us find and fix bugs. This data is not linked to your name or email.

2. Information We Collect (Website)

Contact form.

When you submit our contact form, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your message, so we can respond to you.

Newsletter signup.

When you join our newsletter, we collect your first name and email address so we can send it to you, and the date you signed up as the record of your consent. The form also asks which language you are learning; answering is optional, and "I don't know yet" is an answer we store as such. We use it only to decide which news is worth sending you. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email.

Leaflet purchases.

When you buy a leaflet through Payhip, we record the sale and your email address. If you declined marketing email at their checkout, we still store your address — marked as not to be emailed. We do this so that a future import cannot add you back to a list you already refused; it is a record of your refusal and is never used to contact you.

Website analytics.

If you accept when we ask, we use Google Analytics to understand how the Website is used — which pages are visited, which site or search brought you here, roughly which country you are in, and what kind of device you are on. Google acts as our processor for this, and we have IP anonymisation switched on, so we do not learn your full IP address. We do not use it for advertising, we do not combine it with your account, and we never sell it. If you decline, Google Analytics is not loaded at all, and no data about your visit reaches Google.

Cookies.

Our Website uses cookies to keep you signed in, and — only if you accept — the analytics cookies described above. It uses no advertising or retargeting cookies. We ask before setting anything that is not strictly necessary, and you can change your answer at any time from the Cookie settings link in the footer. We also keep a short label of which of our own links brought you here — an Instagram bio link, a flyer's QR code — in your browser's session storage, so it is still attached if you send us an enquiry. It is not a cookie, holds no identifier, and is discarded when you close the tab. Our Cookie Policy explains this in full.

3. How We Use Your Information

We do not sell your personal information to anyone.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the App:

1. Supabase

— hosts our database and handles account authentication

2. Resend

— sends our marketing and service emails, including newsletters and booking confirmations

Our own database (Supabase) also holds the newsletter list, so that it survives independently of any one provider.

3. Sentry

— collects crash/error reports for debugging

Each of these providers processes data on our behalf and is bound by their own privacy and security practices.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account and learning data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (available in-app under Account Settings), we permanently delete your profile, learning progress, and related data from our systems.

6. Your Rights

You can:

1. Access and update your account information in the App

2. Delete your account and associated data at any time from the App

3. Unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time
